Sir Charles Morgan
Father of Modern Newport
Sir Charles Morgan 2nd Baronet of Tredegar is often considered the Father of Modern Newport. However, it was by pure luck that he came into the vast Tredegar Estates.
His father was Charles Gould who had quite a modest estate at Brecon. He married Jane Morgan. Jane had 3 brothers who would inherit the Tredegar estate and wealth before her. Incredibly all 3 brothers died without leaving an heir, at age 59 Jane Morgan inherited the estate.
So who was Sir Charles Morgan - the elder son of Charles and Jane? In this video, I try and get an understanding of who he was and the impact he had on Newport.
